Wilma L. Jones has been Chief Librarian since 2002 and a member of the faculty since 1992 at the College of Staten Island. As the Chief Librarian, Jones is responsible for the administration of the College Library, which serves 13,800 students, and the overall supervision of 18 full-time library faculty and technology support staff and 48 part-time support staff members. Jones places strong emphasis on librarians working closely with faculty, fulfilling individual student needs, and expanding physical and electronic access to the different service points and collections. In addition, she works collaboratively with members of the Provost's Council to ensure that the research and instructional needs of the college community are met.
As a tenured faculty member, Jones' research interest falls under two areas: on the one hand, on library administration and the impact of integrating new and emerging advanced technologies in the academic environment, and on the other, on African women writers and the African community in New York City. She holds a bachelor and two master's degrees from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. from New York University
