School of Education
Programs & Courses

So you’re thinking about teaching? Great! Teaching can be a very rewarding career. The path to take depends on what you’ve done so far. Below are programs to consider based on where you are on your way to becoming a teacher. All of the School of Education’s programs and the general courses required in each are depicted in this program schematic.

Undergraduate

Completing an undergraduate education program, along with other requirements, will allow you to apply for an initial teaching certification.

Undergraduate students do not major in education. Instead, you will major in either Science, Letters, & Society (for those pursuing a career in elementary education) or your given content area (such as math or science, for those pursuing a career in secondary education). More information is available in the Undergraduate Sequence in Education: Information, Criteria and Requirements section of the Undergraduate Catalogue

If you are a paraprofessional and wish to become a teacher, we recommend you consider the Leap to Teaching Program (pdf)
